New Header!

One of the art classes I'm taking is 2D Design, but because the professor who teaches it at my school just had a baby, it's an online course for this semester. I'm actually kind of grateful, because now I'm finally learning to use Adobe Illustrator as well as Photoshop! So, just for fun, I whipped together this simple little header (and changed the name of my blog)! I think it looks much better this way! c:

Young Sinners Lookbook

I am positively swooning over Young Sinners' latest lookbook. It wasn't until recently until I began to appreciate 60s fashion, and the decade overall. This collection is so wonderfully mod, with the strong patterns and sharp silhouettes, I absolutely love it! Also drooling over the bouffant hairdos! Love love love!!

Terrific Terrariums

Recently, I've noticed Terrariums mentioned here or there and I've been really intrigued by these adorable little gardens. I love the idea of having green in your home, but sometimes potted plants can be too messy or unsightly. Terrarium containers come in all different shapes and sizes, and you can also get ones that hang from your ceiling! There is a large varieties of designs, so you can get a terrarium to match any decor!

Ana Ljubinkovic for Farr Magazine

I saw these pictures of fashion designer Ana Ljubinkovic's editorial for Farr Magazine and fell absolutely in love with them! I adore the bright and pastel colors, and I love that the pieces are so whimsical and fun! I also think they're very visually interesting and aesthetically  pleasing. They actually remind me of my own personal art style!

I would kill for those teal, pearl-studded hot pants!

This dress seems the most practical piece out of the collection, but I bet it's heavy!

Adore the scallop details on the top!

Day 30 — Whatever tickles your fancy

This is my first semester as an art major. I have literally never taken any art classes until a couple months ago. But, I did do art as a hobby, and both of my parents and my sister are artists. (My brother's the black sheep in the family. He's a linguist, and he is fluent in Spanish, and currently learning Portuguese, Chinese, and German. He likes to say that it's language arts so that he doesn't feel left out.)

Anyway, I've been doing really well in my classes, all things considered. There’s some art critic guy who’s coming to my school, he's from like the Nation Association of Art Schools (or something like that, I don't really know!) They put out a bunch of extra displays in the art building and my 3D Design professor chose one of my sculptures to go on display for him to critique! It was the only one chosen from my class! Eep!

Here are some photos of my sculpture on display! It was carved out of a block of plaster and took me a couple weeks. You can't really see in any of these pictures, but it goes in a sort of spiral (the main shape was inspired by a ram's horn), and that was really difficult, but also a fun challenge! I actually haven't gotten my grade back for this assignment, but I'm assuming I did pretty well if my professor thought it was good enough to put on display!

Day 30 — Whatever tickles your fancy

Okay! After taking the week of for Spring Break I had a little trouble of getting back into the habit of posting! But here I am again, making an effort to keep this blog updated (which, honestly, is the longest I've lasted with a New Year's Resolution, so yay!). Not that anyone's really reading this, but, hey. This is really for my own sake. C:

The art piece I have chosen for today is a sculpture by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, titled The Rape of Persephone. As an art student, I, of course, am taking an Art History course. I would launch into a whole spiel about Bernini, but we are actually still on Ancient Greece, and we haven't learned about Bernini yet! Everything I know about him is from my own research.
Look at this dude. Pretty hot, for someone who died over 300 years ago.
Bernini was an Italian artist, who dabbled in architecture, painting, play-writing, metal work, and set design. But what he was most known for was his amazing sculptures! The Rape of Persephone is probably one of his most well-known works.

Now, what Bernini was well-known for, and what really makes this piece rather amazing to me, is the sheer, painstaking detail. Bernini was able to carve stone to look almost identical to flesh, and it is absolutely mind-blowing.

Look at this picture and tell me that doesn't look real. Look at the veins on the hands! The way the fingers press into the skin of Persephone's back and thighs. Ridiculous.

Long story short, I absolutely can not wait to study Bernini and I dream of seeing his works in real life.

Spring Break Craftiness

Yep, that's right, I am currently on Spring Break! I haven't been up to much, really just chilling and playing video games, which I think I really needed. I've also had more time to make art that's for myself, instead of for a school assignment.

I saw a picture of a sweater similar to this one on tumblr but I could not for the life of me find where to buy it! So, naturally, I decided to make my own! The skeleton details were hand drawn and then hand painted by me with acrylic paints.

Here's an outtake! I didn't know I had pressed the button!
