(Casually skips Day 14. I don't read much non-fiction. Plus, this post coincides well with my last post.)

Fan-fiction is a relatively unappreciated perk of the internet that sometimes comes with a bad rep. It is automatically assumed to be creepy and explicit, and although that can be true with some stories, others are quite the opposite. It's really touch and go, and you have to know what you're searching for. I, myself, am a big supporter of fan-fiction. I mean, these people are writing and posting their works on the internet for free for other people to read for free! How great is that? And there are some really talented writers out there! Though, I would just suggest staying away from M-rated works your first time exploring the world of fan-fiction.

This particular fan-fic is only one chapter long, so it's not a very long read, but it's just as compelling! It's a fan-fic from the BBC Sherlock fandom - the modern Sherlock Holmes TV show adaptation that I mentioned in my last post - my favorite TV show! It starts out with Sherlock and John on a case, and John gets stabbed by a criminal, and... well, I would tell you more about the plot, but I don't want to give anything away! Just, trust me, it is well worth reading! :)

The fanfic can be found here:

Enjoy!

One of my all-time favorite fictional works is Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle's Sherlock Holmes Stories. I became enthralled when I saw the Robert Downey Jr. movie adaptation when it came out in 2009, and I went immediately afterward to Barnes & Noble to buy a copy of the complete works. Since then, I've delved into several tv and movie adaptations, and I am thoroughly in love with them all.

What makes me laugh about Conan-Doyle is that he actually hated the character of Sherlock Holmes. After a while he got tired of writing these stories, and decided to kill off the main character (which was unheard of at the time - and even now!). His fans were so outraged, however, that they protested for years, some even wearing black bands on their arms in mourning of the famous detective. Finally, he gave in, bringing him back in "The Adventure of the Empty House".

Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle

Sherlock Holmes is the most portrayed fictional character of all time, but, currently, my favorite Sherlock Holmes adaptation is the BBC mini-series. It's a modern adaptation that sprouted from the brilliant minds of Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the Great Detective and Martin Freeman as his loyal sidekick. It is absolutely brilliant, and I would suggest it to anyone -and often do. I must've seen the first episode 20 times, just from making people watch it with me to try and get them hooked! The first two seasons are on Netflix -only 3 episodes each!- and the third season starts filming next month (!!!!). I am so deeply in love with this show, I actually consider it my absolute favorite TV show!
Mr. Cumberbatch and Mr. Freeman as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson
Leave it to me to turn a post about a fictional book into a post about movies and TV shows. Oops. Sorry that I'm not sorry.

I am absolutely head-over-heels in love with Lauren Moffatt's spring collection this year. The airy silhouettes and playful color palettes have me absolutely yearning for warm weather and spring! Also, the 60s inspiration scores big points with me, seeing as it's my favorite decade! I can just picture myself wearing this collection with big, billowy sun hats, sun-bathing with a glass of lemonade in my hand and a twisty straw. I would kill for the crochet dress to wear over my bathing suits at the beach. Ugh. I hate summer. I need to buy this whole collection and move somewhere where it's always summer and there's never a cloud in sight. Sigh. A girl can dream.

Not an extremely recent picture, but I wanted to share because it makes me laugh! This is from December, my sister and I dressed up for the midnight premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. We had actually bought the outfits a couple months before, even allowing enough time to order pointy ears!! We figured that since the movie was going to be in three parts, it would be good to invest in our costumes. We had so much fun! My hair is actually a lot longer than that, but I pinned it up to get more of a hobbit-like, messy look.

This was was probably from about 1st and 2nd grade, but I remember taking this picture specifically because that was the year that I insisted on doing my hair myself. I think it turned out pretty well, don't you?

Here's a bonus picture of me and my (fraternal) twin sister Cathryn (I'm on the left). We're a bit younger in this picture, I believe around four- or five-years-old. Aren't we the cutest??

(I'm skipping the photo that makes you angry/sad, because honestly, I couldn't think of anything! I try not to make a habit of looking at pictures that upset me!)

Last weekend I went on a school trip to Andersonville, GA which, if you didn't know, was where the largest Civil War POW Prison in the south was held. One of the coolest parts of the trip was when we went to the cemetery. I've always found cemeteries more interesting than I do creepy, mainly because of they history they hold. This one was absolutely amazing and the stark number of graves that they had was absolutely mind boggling! I think this picture really illustrates how many there were and how closely they were packed together. And this is only a fraction of them! There were thousands!!

This question was relatively easy because I'm very picky about the books I read, so I had a much smaller list to choose from than, say, my favorite movies. However, the book that I like to think of as my favorite book I didn't read by choice, it was for a class, but I ended up loving it anyway. This book is Life of Pi, by Yann Martel. It's hard to explain the plot without making this post too wordy, really I just suggest you check it out yourself. In general, it's really about self-discovery and spiritual growth, and it's really just a unique and captivating story.

It was recently adapted for the big screen, but unfortunately, I have still yet to see it!! It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture, and Ang Lee was nominated for Best Director, so I suppose it must be good!! I really, really want to see it soon!

Today's question is much easier than the last two! And my answer is, Grey's Anatomy! My roommate has a blu-ray player that is internet-enabled, so we get Netflix on our television. About a week and a half ago, we got the random whim to start watching the series. Because it's currently on it's ninth season, we thought it would take us forever to catch up. But we have been watching it non-stop since then, and we're almost on season six! Ee! My favorite characters are George, Christina, Bailey, and Denny. Well, really, I love all the characters for different reasons, but those are the four I've loved consistently since the beginning! I can't wait to catch up with the current episodes!

As a huge movie buff, I am always stumped when someone asks me what my favorite movie is. In reality, I love all movies, and very rarely do I ever truly dislike a movie. But there are some movies that, no matter how many times I watch them, I still love them just as much as the first time I saw them (and, in some most cases I still cry as much as the first time). These are the movies that I've loved since I was a child, and that I will continue loving my whole life. There are two (that's right, two! I couldn't choose between them!) that immediately come to mind: The Sound of Music (1965) and Hook (1991). Yep, I knew those dates without looking them up.

The Sound of Music is a movie version of the Rogers and Hammerstein Broadway Musical that follows the true story of Maria Von Trapp during the start of the Second World War. It has an all-star cast, including the flawlessly adorable Julie Andrews and the handsome Christopher Plummer. (Christopher Plummer's character in this movie was my first true love -- and, to be honest, I'm still pretty much in love with him!) I could sing you the entire movie soundtrack by heart, easy peasy! I loved this movie so much as a kid that I ran the VHS into the ground, so much so that for a couple years I couldn't even watch it because it was in such bad shape! But one year for my birthday, my mother bought me the DVD, and I am forever grateful!

Hook is a family action-adventure movie directed by Steven Spielberg. It serves as a sequel to Peter Pan, following the story of Peter Banning (played by the lovable Robin Williams) who lost all his memory of Neverland when he left it behind for a family. When Captain Hook (fabulously played by Dustin Hoffman) kidnaps his children, Peter returns to Never Never Land in order to regain his memories and save his kids! My sister and I could literally quote this movie all the way through, between the two of us. I love it so much! Unfortunately, it's considered a cult classic and Steven Spielberg has been quoted saying that he considers it one of his most disappointing projects, but if you haven't seen it, I strongly suggest that you do, because you are in for a treat!

30-Day Blog Challenge - Day 1

As a newbie in the blogging world, I'm not really used to regularly coming up with ideas about what to post on my blog. And as a student, I don't really have the time or resources to post about what I want to post. So, for inspiration, I went on some of my favorite blogs that I follow and looked at what they posted when they were just starting out. I found this 30 Day Blog Challenge on Kate's blog Scathingly Brilliant (which, by the way, is very appropriately named)! So, in order to start some regular posting, I'm going to shamelessly steal her idea.

OH, wow, for the first challenge, this one is pretty hard! I think I'll just go with my favorite song at this moment because, really, it changes almost daily.

My favorite song (for today) is Prima Donna from The Phantom of the Opera.

I've been doing theatre for seven years, and throughout all that time, The Phantom of the Opera has consistently remained my favorite show. It was the show that started it all for me, the show that made me want to do theatre. Being a theatre nut, half of the songs on my iPod are from musicals and I just downloaded the soundtrack for the Phantom of the Opera 25th Anniversary Concert from 2010 sooooo that's pretty much all that I've been listening to!
