As a huge movie buff, I am always stumped when someone asks me what my favorite movie is. In reality, I love all movies, and very rarely do I ever truly dislike a movie. But there are some movies that, no matter how many times I watch them, I still love them just as much as the first time I saw them (and, in some most cases I still cry as much as the first time). These are the movies that I've loved since I was a child, and that I will continue loving my whole life. There are two (that's right, two! I couldn't choose between them!) that immediately come to mind: The Sound of Music (1965) and Hook (1991). Yep, I knew those dates without looking them up.
The Sound of Music is a movie version of the Rogers and Hammerstein Broadway Musical that follows the true story of Maria Von Trapp during the start of the Second World War. It has an all-star cast, including the flawlessly adorable Julie Andrews and the handsome Christopher Plummer. (Christopher Plummer's character in this movie was my first true love -- and, to be honest, I'm still pretty much in love with him!) I could sing you the entire movie soundtrack by heart, easy peasy! I loved this movie so much as a kid that I ran the VHS into the ground, so much so that for a couple years I couldn't even watch it because it was in such bad shape! But one year for my birthday, my mother bought me the DVD, and I am forever grateful!
Hook is a family action-adventure movie directed by Steven Spielberg. It serves as a sequel to Peter Pan, following the story of Peter Banning (played by the lovable Robin Williams) who lost all his memory of Neverland when he left it behind for a family. When Captain Hook (fabulously played by Dustin Hoffman) kidnaps his children, Peter returns to Never Never Land in order to regain his memories and save his kids! My sister and I could literally quote this movie all the way through, between the two of us. I love it so much! Unfortunately, it's considered a cult classic and Steven Spielberg has been quoted saying that he considers it one of his most disappointing projects, but if you haven't seen it, I strongly suggest that you do, because you are in for a treat!
